One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 69 near Monroe Monday afternoon, according to a release.
Just before 4 p.m., Green County emergency crews were sent to the area of N3800 Highway 69 for reports of a vehicle crash with people trapped inside, officials said. First responders found the two-vehicle crash just south of County Road FF.
An initial investigation indicates a vehicle going north on Highway 69 crossed the center line and collided with a car going south, authorities said. The person in the northbound vehicle, and two people in the southbound vehicle were extricated by firefighters.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, 56-year-old Donna M. Green, of Monroe, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
The two females in the southbound car, 61-year-old Barbara S. Stutzke, of Sterling, Illinois, and 36-year-old Stacey M. Bontz, of Rock Falls, Illinois, were transported by helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison with life-threatening injuries. Officials did not provide an update on their condition Tuesday.
Highway 69 was closed in both directions for over three hours.
According to the release, this is Green County's first traffic fatality of the year.
