MT. VERNON, IL : Four injured in I-64 crash on Thursday, August 3, 2017
Four people were injured Thursday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 eastbound at Mile Post 67.
The crash involved a transit bus, a Honda SUV, and a semi-trailer, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police, District 13.
Emily Stone, 35, of Evansville, Ind., and her two child passengers in the SUV were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with serious injuries.
The bus driver — Kim Graves, 38, of Gulfport, Miss. — was transported to the same hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the semi — Darby Key, 49, of Fort Payne, Ala. — was not injured.
The crash happened at around 4:20 p.m. Stone was driving the SUV west on I-64 when heavy rainfall and speed allegedly caused her to lose control of the vehicle, the news release states.
After going through the median and into the eastbound lanes, the SUV struck the rear end of the semi before spinning into the front end of the bus. The bus did not contain any passengers, only the driver.
Both lanes of I-64 east were closed at the scene for about 40 minutes. One lane of I-64 east was re-opened for traffic at around 5 p.m. and by 7 p.m. both lanes were re-opened, the release states.
Stone was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
