TAZEWELL, VA : Fatal crash reported in Tazewell on Monday, December, 18th 2017

A single-vehicle crash took the life Monday morning of a motorist traveling on U.S. Route 460 in Tazewell County, Va. after her vehicle crossed the highway’s median and struck a tree.

The crash occurred between 5:30 and 6 a.m. on U.S. Route 460 in the vicinity of Industry Road, according to a dispatcher with the Virginia State Police in Wytheville, Va. and Tazewell County 911. There was one fatality.

Law enforcement authorities in Wytheville, Va. withheld the victim’s name that morning until members of her family could be notified about the accident.

Members of the state police said early Monday afternoon that the driver, Ashley Nicole Lewis, 31, of North Tazewell, Va. was traveling west on Route 460 when she ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle then struck a guardrail, crossed the highway’s median, and went into the eastbound lanes where it fell over an embankment and struck a tree. Lewis died at the scene, according a report filed by the investigating officer, Trooper J.L. Dixon.

Units of the Tazewell County Fire Department and Tazewell County EMS were also dispatched to the crash scene, according to Tazewell County 911.
