Red Banks, MS : One Rust College student died, another injured in a car crash on Highway 178, east of Red Banks on Monday, Oct 26, 2015

According to Marshall County Coroner, one Rust College student died in a car crash just after 3 p.m. on Monday.

One other student was injured in the crash.

The crash happened on Highway 178, east of Red Banks, Mississippi. Highway Patrol officers said a 2005 Chevrolet Impala went off the road and crashed into a tree.

The Chevrolet's driver survived the crash with moderate injuries, but his 17-year-old passenger did not.

Highway Patrol identified the driver as 22-year-old Jarvaris Pugues of Memphis and the passenger as Alexa Dashiell of Compton, California.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and the loss of one of our students. We ask all of the Rust College community to join us in praying for those involved," Dionyal Spencer, Rust College Director of Public Relations, said.
