WEBSTER, NY : Wrong-way driver on I-395 causes crashes, is charged with drunken driving on Sunday, 30th September 2018
A wrong-way driver who allegedly caused at least two crashes on Interstate 395 Sunday night has been charged with a third offense of drunken driving, state police said.
Michael Schold, 54, of Webster is to be arraigned Monday in Dudley District Court on the drunken driving charge and one count of negligent driving, state police said. A state police spokesman said it’s likely that additional charges will be filed as troopers work to sort out the crashes.
Mr. Schold allegedly drove his pickup truck north on the southbound side of the highway in the Webster area, causing accidents between exits 1 and 4, state police said. No one was seriously hurt but the crashes left damaged vehicles blocking the road and debris strewn about, creating a traffic problem for some time after the incident.
Several motorists called 911 to report the wrong-way driver, state police Sgt. Paul Sullivan said, starting about 8:15 p.m.
State and local police were on the highway for some time assisting drivers and investigating.
Bail for Mr. Schold had not been set late Sunday night.
