A Marion man is dead and a two Gas City residents hospitalized following a near head-on collision on Ind. 218 near Wabash County Road 600E near LaFontaine around 9:30 p.m. Monday night, Indiana State Police said on Tuesday.
State Police say Marion resident Danny Drabenstot, 59, was driving westbound in his 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck when, for an unknown reason, his truck crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound Acura, carrying two passengers.
The 27-year-old driver of the Acrua, Mackenzie Seacat, and her passenger, Caleb Webber, 26, were transported to Marion General Hospital for treatment. Seacat was later transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment of a “non-life threatening head injury,” according to ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Tony Slocum.
Lutheran Hospital confirmed on Tuesday that Seacat has been discharged, while State Police say Webber complained of pain but was released from the hospital.
State Police say Drabenstot was partially ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing his seat belt. He was pronounced dead at the scene after first responders provided first aid.
Seacat and Webber also failed to use their seat belts in the accident, according to Slocum.
After impact, Drabenstot’s truck was found flipped on its passenger side south of the two-lane highway, while Seacat’s vehicle lay on the road with it’s driverside fender almost indistinguishable, according to ISP crash scene photos.
The accident is still under investigation by State Police.
Departments assisting at the scene include the Wabash County Sheriff’s Department, the LaFontaine Town Marshal, Wabash County Emergency Management Agency, Wabash Fire Department, Liberty Township Fire Department and Wabash County Coroner.
