COLUMBIA, MO : Woman dies in ATV crash at Finger Lakes State Park on Saturday, August 12, 2017
Authorities have not yet identified the woman who was killed Saturday afternoon while riding an ATV at Finger Lakes State Park.
The emergency call came in at 3:45 p.m., and a response team from the Boone County Fire Protection District arrived at the trailhead six minutes later with two engines, a rescue squad, medic and helicopter.
The crash took place about a half mile off the road, so the team walked out to the scene.
Finger Lakes State Park, a coal strip mine that became a state park, is 10 miles north of Columbia. It is one of two Missouri state parks that provide areas for off-roading.A representative of the Boone County Medical Examiner's Office referred questions to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. Several people there declined to comment on the episode.
The Missouri Highway Patrol also declined to comment, saying it is not handling the incident.
