Tuscaloosa, AL : Downtown bridge closed after fiery crash claims driver's life in the southbound lanes of the bridge that crosses the Black Warrior River in downtown on Sunday, 25th August 2019
A fiery collision between a car and a tanker truck on the Hugh Thomas Bridge claimed the life of a driver early Sunday.
The wrong-way crash happened at 2:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the bridge that crosses the Black Warrior River in downtown Tuscaloosa. The tanker truck caught fire and exploded after colliding with the car, which was traveling in the wrong direction. The truck driver was unharmed.
Traffic was diverted while crews cleaned the scene and Northport police began an investigation. The southbound lanes remained closed while Alabama Department of Transportation workers made repairs, reopening the bridge to traffic around noon.
The victims’s name hadn’t been released as of Sunday night.
