Union County, NJ: Motorcycle crash closes Route 22 in Mountainside on Sunday, August 2nd 2015

A portion of Route 22 eastbound was closed Sunday after a motorcycle accident that resulted in one person being flown away from the scene by New Jersey State Police helicopter.The crash occurred shortly before 3 p.m.Route 22 eastbound was closed between Mountain Avenue and New Providence Road for nearly four hours while authorities conducted an investigation. Police said the road was reopened around 6:50 p.m.Officers from the Mountainside and Scotch Plains police departments, as well as state police, were at the scene. The Mountainside Fire Department, Mountainside Rescue Squad and Atlantic Ambulance Paramedics also responded.A field next to police headquarters served as a landing zone for the helicopter. One person was wheeled on a stretcher to the aircraft, which took off at about 4:20 p.m.Detours around the crash site caused heavy delays for motorists throughout the afternoon.
