Springfield, TN : Man injured following crash in Springfield on Wednesday, October 12, 2016

A man was airlifted to the hospital after a violent crash in Springfield.

A Mini Cooper and a pickup truck collided around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Mt. Zion and Thompson roads, according to Smokey Barn News.

The pickup truck then went off the road and crashed into a tree. Firefighters had to rip the door off the truck to free the driver pinned inside.

An ambulance took the man to North Crest Medical Center, and he was later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

There's no word on the man's condition. The other driver was not seriously hurt.

Police are still working to determine what caused the wreck.
