Pomona, CA : Police pursuit ends in fatal crash in Pomona on Wednesday, 3rd February 2021
A police pursuit in Pomona led to a crash that left one person dead Wednesday, Feb. 3.
Officers attempted to stop a motorist at Ninth Street and San Antonio Avenue for a vehicle code violation at about 3:51 p.m., Pomona police spokeswoman Aly Mejia said. The driver took off and was chased by police for several minutes before crashing into another vehicle at San Antonio and Philadelphia Street .
“Unfortunately, it was an innocent person inside,” Mejia said.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle that was struck died at the scene of the collision, Mejia said.
The driver pursued by police fled the area on foot, Mejia. The driver pursued by police exited his vehicle, then stole a young girl’s bicycle and fled, Mejia said.
Officers surrounded the area and searched for a suspect, described only as a man. He was arrested at about 4:30 p.m.
The identities of the person taken into custody and the driver who was killed were not publicly available Wednesday evening. Further information regarding the chase and crash were not immediately released.
