Clendenin,WV : Two killed in I-79 wreck near Clendenin on June, Tuesday 27th 2017
Two people are dead and two others were injured Tuesday in a crash that closed all lanes of Interstate 79 southbound near Clendenin, an emergency dispatcher said.
One of those killed in the wreck was a state Division of Highways employee, according to Highways spokeswoman Carrie Jones.
The employee was in a vehicle with two other DOH employees, both of whom are being treated for injuries, she said.
The vehicle was heading southbound when another vehicle driving northbound crossed the median and hit the vehicle near the 16-mile marker, Jones said.
She said the department is still trying to confirm the identity of the employee killed and will not be releasing any names at this point.
The Kanawha Metro 911 dispatcher said a portion of the interstate was expected to be shut down “for a while” following the two-vehicle wreck, which was reported shortly after 4 p.m. The lanes reopened to traffic around 8:30 p.m.
