HOLLY SPRINGS, MS : Ole Miss student killed in crash wanted to be a heart surgeon, joined military on Tuesday, 1st November 2016

An Ole Miss student died in a motorcycle crash in Marshall County on Tuesday night.

The Marshall County coroner said Jonathan 'Jay' Arthur Cleveland, 20, crashed with a truck around 10 p.m. on Highway 4 just outside Holly Springs.

Cleveland was a sophomore at Ole Miss majoring in criminal justice. He was also in ROTC.

He was the kind of 20-year-old any parent would be proud to have. The kind of person with big dreams.

"He wanted to be a heart surgeon because he wanted to fix hearts that were broken emotionally and physically," Jonathan's father Robert Cleveland said.

Cleveland said he last saw his son Tuesday night.

"He was sitting here at this house. We ate dinner. We talked," Cleveland said.

Jay had played football at Byhalia High School. He went to visit his cousin and died in the motorcycle crash around 10 p.m. that night.

Robert said his son had visited his cousin and was heading home when he collided with a truck. Investigators said the truck pulled out onto the road.

His family said Jay was thrown from the motorcycle.

It is unclear who is at fault for the crash.

Robert said Jay was a son who knew what he wanted and how to get it. His father got this call two years ago.

"I started college Monday. I need $900 for books."

Robert told his son he didn't have the $900.

"He calls me back. I've got the money for books. I've got it all covered. I joined the Army National Guard," Robert said.

Jay said his son would have been successful in the military and as a heart surgeon.

"My bottom line was my son."
