Margate, FL : Car crashes into Dollar Tree in Margate on Wednesday morning, September 24, 2014

Police are on the scene after a vehicle crashed into a Dollar Tree in Margate, Wednesday morning. The car crashed into the front of the business, located at the Peppertree Plaza on the intersection of West Sample Road and 441, at around 10 a.m. Thankfully, there were no major injuries to report. According to officials, a senior citizen was attempting to park in a handicapped spot but had a mishap with his car's pedals. He ran over a bush, jumped the curb and crashed into the building. A man who was stacking up cases of water bottles near the front entrance of the store and two women sitting on a bench in front of the store managed to jump out of the way. Nurses and doctors from a nearby wellness center ran over to the scene of the accident to help aid the driver. Dr. Kirk Whitten helped the driver. "The guy was coherent. He was alert. He was oriented. He knew what was going, [he knew his] name, the date. He was just worried, like, 'Oh, my God what did I do?'" said the doctor. The man was transported to Northwest Medical Center with minor injuries. No one inside of the store was hurt. Brad Vandam shot video of the scene. "I heard a bang from inside," said Vandam, "and then I said, 'OK, maybe something is happening.' Then I heard a second bang, and I'm like, 'OK, what's going down?' So then I'm heading to open the door, and I hear a smashing, hear people yelling, and basically the tires were still squealing from the car. The gas was still going." "I can't believe the car, is nothing wrong with the car," said another witness, Hoelsch Suvli, "and he said, 'Oh, I need my glasses. I can't see nothing.'" Janice Cohen also witnessed the crash. "It was very loud. I was parking my car." The store will be closed while crews work to repair the damage. As for the driver, he said he had a mishap with the pedals.
