Chicago, IL : Des Moines woman killed in a bus crash on Interstate 55 in Chicago on Monday morning, December 28, 2015

A Des Moines woman was killed in a bus crash in Chicago Monday morning.

The Illinois State Patrol said Nicole M. Underwood, 21, was killed in the crash that also injured five other people.

The crash was reported on Interstate 55 northbound at Damen about 6:40 a.m. Some 33 people were aboard the bus at the time.

Troopers said their preliminary investigation revealed the Burlington Trailways bus was traveling on I-55 northbound near Damen when for unknown reasons the driver lost control and struck a construction arrow board sign.

The impact caused four passengers to be sent to hospitals in stable conditions.

The crash remains under investigation.
