Austin, TX : Southbound I-35 near U.S. 290 reopens after fatal crash on Wednesday, November 16th 2016
10 a.m. update: The main lanes of Interstate 35 have been reopened just north of U.S. 290 following a fatality crash involving a pedestrian on Wednesday morning. The Austin Police Department confirmed officers cleared the scene of the crash shortly before 10 a.m. after the southbound lanes of the highway had been shut down for several hours. Heavy residual traffic is expected to continue in the area.
8:30 a.m. update: Austin police say the southbound lanes of Interstate 35 near U.S. 290 in Northeast Austin will be shut down for about another 90 minutes as crews try to clear the scene of a fatal crash earlier Wednesday.
A fatal crash on the main lanes of Interstate 35 near U.S. 290 is expected to cause major delays heading into Austin on Wednesday morning. According to the Austin Police Department, police were called out to the crash around 6 a.m. after receiving reports of a crash involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian.Authorities confirmed about 15 minutes later that a man died in the crash, and that investigators were blocking off all southbound lanes of traffic in the area north of downtown.
No other injuries were reported, police said.
Drivers should seek alternate routes if possible.
