Newsport, VA : 64-year-old Larry Douglas Castle dies after being hit by car in Newport News on Sunday morning, April 19, 2015

A man died after being hit by a car in Newport News early Sunday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m., police and medics responded to a report of an auto/pedestrian traffic accident near the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Ellen Drive.

Police say 64-year-old Larry Douglas Castle was walking south along Jefferson Avenue when he stumbled and fell into the right lane of traffic.

Castle was hit by a 2006 Chrysler Sedan and died.

It is believed that alcohol was a factor in the accident on behalf of Castle.

Police say the driver of the Chrysler stayed at the crash and no charges have been filed.
