Salem, OR : Silverton man killed in motorcycle crash on Silverton Road NE near 81st Avenue NE early Saturday morning, May 7, 2016

Deputies identified the motorcyclist killed just east of Salem early Saturday morning as a 32-year-old Silverton man.

Joshua Rich was riding his 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound along Silverton Road NE near 81st Avenue NE when attempted to pass a Ford truck, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

He struck the truck then collided head-on with a SUV traveling westbound. The SUV burst into flames, and Rich was killed instantly.

According to the sheriff's office, Rich was involved in another crash in August 2014 near the same stretch of Silverton Road NE. According to witnesses, Rich collided with a pizza delivery vehicle after it turned in front of his motorcycle. He suffered a severe leg injury. Responding deputies applied a tourniquet stop the blood loss, helping to save his life.

Saturday's crash closed the road for several hours. No other injuries were reported, and deputies did not issue any citations.
