Raymond, IL : Two teens dead, one badly hurt in crash near Raymond on Wednesday afternoon, November 5, 2014
Two teens are dead after a two-vehicle crash that occurred a half-mile northeast of Raymond on Illinois 48 on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Illinois State Police.
No names were released, and neither ISP officials nor Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus could be reached for additional comment.
The accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m.
According to a statement from ISP District 18 Trooper Jeffrey Yenchko, three teens were northbound on 48 when the Pontiac Grand Prix they were in left the roadway to the right. The driver then overcorrected, sending the car into the path of an oncoming southbound minivan. The minivan struck the Grand Prix on its passenger side.
The front-seat passenger in the Grand Prix was pronounced dead at the scene. The back-seat passenger was transported by ambulance to an area hospital and was pronounced dead there. The driver was flown by helicopter to a hospital and was being treated for serious injuries, state police said.
The release stated that the driver of the minivan was transported to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Officials at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield confirmed that one of those injured in the crash was being treated there. A condition was not available.
