Cincinnati, OH : A 44 years old Robert D. Tirey was killed after being stuck by a car at Interstate with Ohio Avenue on Thursday, September 22nd, 2016

A man in a wheelchair was struck by a car and killed Thursday night in Silverton.

Robert D. Tirey, 44, was operating a motorized wheelchair and was in a marked crosswalk on Section Road near the intersection with Ohio Avenue when he was struck at 9:35 p.m., according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Tirey's wheelchair was struck on the right side by a 2004 Kia Spectra driven by Jasmain L. Grier, 26. Grier, of Cincinnati, who was driving eastbound on section road failed to yield to Tirey who was southbound in the crosswalk, according to the sheriff's office.

Tirey, of Cincinnati, was taken to Jewish Hospital by the Deer Park/Silverton Fire Department, where he was pronounced dead. Grier was not injured in the crash.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the fatal crash, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

No charges had been filed as of early Friday and the crash was still being investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the unit at 513-825-1500.
