Polk County, FL : Michael J. Millan-Perez, 21, of Orlando killed after drunken driver stops car on I-4 early Wednesday morning, February 25, 2015
An Orlando man is dead after his car slammed into the back of another car stopped on Interstate 4 early Wednesday morning.
The crash happened near Mile Marker 38 in Polk County just before 5 a.m. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the victim was 21-year-old Michael J. Millan-Perez.
Investigators say the crash happened when 30-year-old Nick Nicholas was headed westbound in an inside lane on I-4. Troopers don't know for sure why the Kissimmee man stopped on the highway but say he was likely drunk at the time.
When Nicholas stopped short, there wasn't enough time for Millan-Perez to avoid the crash.
Millan-Perez, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord, rear-ended Nicholas' 2007 Chevrolet SUV.
The impact of the crash sent the SUV into a median and the victim's Honda into a center lane. Neither driver was wearing a seat belt. Nicholas only suffered minor injures but Millan-Perez died at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
