Clifton, NJ : Pair of Clifton crashes result in serious injuries on June 15th 2014
Police responded to two crashes in Clifton that resulted in serious injuries Sunday.
Police first responded to a crash involving a car and a scooter at the intersection of Clifton and Bryant avenues around 4:30 p.m.
Sgt. Phil Buccino with the Cincinnati Police Traffic Unit said the driver of the scooter underwent surgery Sunday evening at University of Cincinnati Medical Center for a lacerated spleen and liver. He is in serious condition.
Around 7 p.m., police then responded to what was initially reported as a child bicyclist being struck by car at the intersection of Whitfield and Lowell avenues. Initial report, via emergency communications, also stated that the child was stuck underneath the car.
On scene, District 5 Sgt. George Pille said the bicyclist was 23 years old and was not stuck underneath the car. Pille said the car was turning left from Whitfield onto Lowell when the bike crashed into the passenger side of the car.
Pille added that the driver was at fault for failing to yield.
He said the bicyclist suffered serious facial injuries.
Buccino, who visited the bicyclist at UC Medical Center, said she had several teeth knocked out and the upper part of her mouth was split open. The young woman will need reconstructive surgery for her injuries, he said.
Her injuries, however, are not life threatening, Buccino added. He said she was talking and alert.
A passenger in the car was also transported to UC Medical Center after she was cut by glass from the passenger-side window, which was shattered in the crash.
