GARDEN CITY, SD : Fiery collision by Garden City results in one death on Friday, 28th October 2016

Delmer Stern, 60, of Garden City died Friday in a collision of two semi-trucks at the northeast corner of Garden City in Clark County.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, at 4:10 p.m. Stern was driving a 1991 Freightliner, pulling a cattle hauler loaded with cattle, He was northbound on 432nd Avenue near the intersection with 167th Street.
Stern failed to stop at a stop sign, went into the intersection and collided with a westbound 2001 Peterbilt semi driven by Manuel Waldner, 53, of Garden City. Waldner was pulling an empty belly dump trailer.
The Freightliner went into the ditch and was engulfed in flames. Stern died at the scene.
Waldner was not injured.
The S.D. Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies at the scene were the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Clark Fire/EMS and Garden City Fire/EMS.
