Osceola, IN : One person killed, one injured in Osceola crash early Monday morning, March 20, 2017

One person was killed and another seriously injured in an early morning crash in Osceola.

According to a report from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office, St. Joseph County police officers were called to Cedar Street and Riverview Boulevard in Osceola shortly before 2:30 a.m. Monday on report of a single-vehicle crash. Officers arrived to find a Ford Explorer on its side off the road.

Police said the SUV landed in a historic cemetery after leaving the roadway and bouncing off several trees. The driver, a 39-year-old man, had to be extracted from the vehicle by emergency responders. A passenger, Heather Zurbuch, 39, of Mishawaka, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, whose identity has not been released, is hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement from the prosecutor's office.

Alcohol is suspected of being a factor in the crash, according to the prosecutor's office.The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team is handling the investigation, which remains ongoing.
