Murfreesboro, TN : Indiana man killed in I-24 crash in Smyrna on Monday, March 13, 2017

An Indiana man was killed in an early morning crash on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County when he apparently got out of his vehicle while stopped at the median and was hit by another car.

Christopher Kimbrough, 44, of Chandler, Ind., was traveling eastbound on I-24 and ran off the roadway on the right side for unknown reasons, according to a preliminary report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Kimbrough overcorrected after going off the roadway and hit the median wall with the vehicle coming to rest perpendicular to the lanes of travel, the report states.

When Kimbrough got out of the vehicle and went to the passenger side, the driver of a 2005 Cadillac was unable to stop and struck Kimbrough and his vehicle, according to the report.

No citations were issued.

There was no evidence of drugs or alcohol at the scene, the report states.

The crash was occurred just before 3:30 a.m.
