WYANDOTTE, OK : A two-vehicle collision near Wyandotte on Thursday, December, 28th 2017

A two-vehicle collision near Wyandotte left two men pinned in the wreckage. The Dec. 26 collision occurred at 5:44 p.m. on State Highway 10 at East County Road 204, six miles south of Wyandotte, and sent a Baxter Springs, Kansas man to the hospital.

According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Jeff Laue’s report, a 2013 Ford Explorer driven by Paul Elrod, 87, of Grove was southbound on State Highway 10 and went left of center and struck a 1988 Ford Bronco driven by Robbie Qualls, 43, of Baxter Springs, Kansas. head on.

Elrod was pinned for approximately 45 minutes, before being extricated by Wyandotte and Seneca Cayuga Fire Departments and transported by Quapaw Tribe EMS to Integris Grove Hospital. Elrod was treated and released.

Qualls was pinned for approximately one hour and extricated by Wyandotte and Seneca Cayuga Fire Departments and transported by AeroCare to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Qualls was admitted in stable condition with head, internal and external trunk injuries.

The OHP report lists the condition of both drivers as apparently normal and the cause of the collision as Elrod driving left of center.

Seatbelts were equipped in both vehicles and in use by both drivers, and the weather is listed as cloudy and dry in the OHP report.
