DIXON,IL : Services set for woman fatally injured in crash on June, Monday 26th 2017

Services have been set for a Dixon woman who police say was driving drunk when she crashed into a Mini Cooper a week ago today.

Susan E. Emmole, 48, died Monday afternoon at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, State Police said in a news release Tuesday.

Emmole was eastbound on state Route 2 in a Nissan Maxima around 11:30 a.m., driving at a high rate of speed, when she struck Steven M. Moreno, 62, also of Dixon, just east of Plock Road.

Both cars rolled; Emmole was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, the ISP said.

She had pleaded not guilty in Lee County court to a felony charge of using a forged or stolen debit card about 2 hours before the crash. ?

Moreno was released from KSB Hospital the next day, was readmitted Friday and released again. He has no recollection of the crash, he said Monday.

Tuesday, upon hearing word of Emmole’s death, Moreno sent a statement to Sauk Valley Media via his attorney, James Mertes of Sterling:

“My wife and I are greatly saddened by the news of Ms. Emmole’s passing,” Moreno said. “This accident was a terrible tragedy that will forever affect her family and ours.

“I extend my sincere sympathies to Ms. Emmole’s family. I know that they are suffering greatly, and I join them in wishing that we could just go back in time and erase that horrible day in our lives.”

Moreno continues to suffer from the severe injuries, Mertes wrote.

Among others, Emmole is survived by her children Vanessa, Ben, Nicholas and Josh Emmole, and her father, Donald Kessel, all of Dixon.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and a memorial service begins at 11 a.m. Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
