Charlotte,NC ; One bicyclist seriously injured in Crash after struck by a vehicle at block of Central Avenue, near old Eastland Mall on Early Friday Morning ,March 20th 2015

A bicyclist is in serious condition after he was struck by a vehicle in east Charlotte early Friday morning.

Just after 5 a.m., police say David Spranger was struck in the 5300 block of Central Avenue, near N. Sharon Amity and the old Eastland Mall.

Spranger was riding in the right lane when the vehicle, believed to be a silver Ford Windstar minivan, hit Spranger's rear tire and threw him off his bike, officials say.

Police blocked off the inbound lanes near Bell South Drive while they reviewed the scene.

Witnesses, surveillance video and vehicle debris found at the scene, identified the minivan as the suspected vehicle involved.

According to police, the minivan appears to be a model between 1999 and 2003 and may have damage to its front end.

Medic took Spranger to Carolinas Medical Center. Police say they are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run.
