Scranton,PA : Driver in fatal wreck sentenced on March, Monday 26th 2018
A Duryea man who killed the driver of an oncoming car while speeding on a West Wyoming road will serve three years in the Intermediate Punishment Program, the first 10 months on house arrest, a judge ordered Monday.
Jack Ostrowski, 45, was due in court Monday morning to stand trial on a felony count of vehicular homicide but instead pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count involuntary manslaughter for killing Thomas Ohl Jr., 61, on Feb. 4, 2013.
According to prosecutors, Ostrowski was driving about 30 mph over the speed limit in a 2009 Chevrolet cargo van owned by Keystone Automotive Operations. The crash took place when Ostrowski crossed lanes into the path of Ohl’s 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe, causing a head-on collision on West Eighth Street.
In June 2013, Ohl’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Ostrowski and his employer at the time, Exeter-based Keystone Automotive. Court records show the parties settled the suit for $2.5 million in May 2014.
