Southaven, MS : Woman killed, man injured in ATV crash near Stateline and Tulane roads on Saturday night, February 7, 2015

Desoto County Corner Jeff Pounders confirmed that a woman died in an ATV accident Saturday night. Investigators say the crash happened near the intersection of Stateline and Tulane roads.

Though details are still unfolding, early reports from Southaven police say the woman was riding as a passenger on an ATV near Stateline and Tulane roads. Around 10:30 Saturday night, the woman was thrown from the ATV. She did not survive. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

WMC Action News 5 confirmed the Desoto County Sheriff's Department is assisting the Southaven Police Department in the investigation.

The cause of the crash is still unknown, but a Southaven officer may be involved. A spokesperson for the Desoto Sheriff's Department told WMC:

"It is a common practice for us to assist in an investigation/reconstruction at the request of another agency in different jurisdiction when their personnel is involved or could be perceived involved."

The woman's family is asking for privacy at this time, but noted that Monday would've been her birthday.
