ARIMO, ID : Elderly woman escapes serious injury after crashing car into Bannock County Post Office on Tuesday, 20th September 2016
An out-of-control car punched a massive hole in the exterior of the post office in the southern Bannock County town of Arimo.
The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday when an elderly woman driving a Ford sedan accidentally hit her accelerator instead of her brake, causing her car to careen into the post office on Meadowview Drive, authorities said.
Despite the damage to the post office, as well as her car, the woman was not seriously injured during the crash. She was treated by ambulance personnel at the scene but did not require transport to the hospital.
The Bannock County Sheriff’s Office did not release the woman’s name Tuesday night but confirmed she is from Arimo.
The incident occurred when the post office was closed and no one was inside the building.
Despite the significant damage, the post office is expected to open as scheduled Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The woman’s car crashed into the portion of the building where residents’ post office boxes are located, damaging two rooms.
The Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation.
