St. Johns County, FL : One person injured in a hit-and-run crash on Tuesday December 29 2015.

A St. Johns County deputy was injured in a hit-and-run crash New Year's Eve.
Police said they hope a key piece of evidence left behind by the driver will lead them to the suspect.
The Florida Highway Patrol released a report that said the unknown driver of a silver Volkswagen ran a red light and rear-ended Officer Troy Bickhart's patrol car around 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 1 and State Road 312.
The driver then fled the scene of the crash.
Officials said the driver's front bumper fell off after impact with the deputy's patrol car and was left at the scene of the crash.
Bickhart, despite being injured in the crash, attempted to catch up to the driver of the Volkswagen until his patrol car became disabled due to damage from the crash. Bickhart’s parents said that’s just the type of person he is.
His parents said Bickhart has been on the force for about 10 years, and about four years a similar incident occurred.
Bickhart's parents said a suspect rammed his patrol car, and he was able to catch the suspect. Although Bickhart wasn't able to do the same Friday, police said they're hopeful they will catch the suspect.
The bumper that fell off the suspect’s car, combined with the cameras at this intersection, may give troopers all they need to track the suspect down.
Bickhart suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the hospital Friday afternoon.
