Birmingham ,AL : Elderly Driver killed and passenger injured after collision with stolen truck on wednesday Morning ,April 22 2015
An elderly driver and a passenger in her car were killed after being involved in a wreck with a stolen truck.
According to Birmingham Police, the head-on collision took place at 9:41 a.m. at the intersection of Crestwood Boulevard and 56th Street in Birmingham.
Lt. Sean Edwards said the truck the suspect was driving had been stolen from a nearby dealership just minutes before the crash. He said it appears the stolen truck ran a red light and collided with the victim's vehicle.
The elderly driver in the other vehicle died on the scene, and a passenger was critically injured. She was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment, where she later died.
The suspect in the stolen car was also taken to UAB for treatment, where they are under police watch.
Traffic is still being diverted off Crestwood Boulevard as a result of the crash.
