Prescott,AZ : Deputies looking for Dewey hit-and-run driver who crashed into school bus, SUV on August, Wednesday 30th 2017
A driver who Sheriff’s deputies said struck a school bus and then an SUV in Dewey on Aug. 28 got out of his car and ran from the scene, said Dwight D’Evelyn, Yavapai County Sheriff’s spokesman.
About 4:30 p.m., a Humboldt Unified School District bus was headed west on Prescott Street when it was hit by a Kia Sorento that ran a stop sign at Dana Street, D’Evelyn said.
The Kia ran into the door of the bus, then spun around and hit the parked SUV.
The driver was identified as Gerald Dempsey, 38, of Dewey. He ran from the scene, eluding a witness who chased him, D’Evelyn said.
The bus driver and an adult passenger on the bus said they had pain as a result of the crash, D’Evelyn said.
Dempsey was wanted on a $25,000 aggravated assault/probation violation warrant, and now also on a hit-and-run charge.
He’s white, six feet tall, 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
