PORTLAND OR : 2 dead, 2 hospitalized after crash on SE Powell Boulevard on Thursday, 20th July 2023

Three people died and one person was hospitalized after a crash on Southeast Powell Boulevard Thursday night.

Around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, East Precinct officers responded to a the report off a crash on Southeast Powell Boulevard at Southeast 63rd Avenue involving multiple cars.

According to police, the investigation indicates two cars, a 2015 BMW 3-series sedan and a 2005 Subaru Impreza, were racing eastbound on SE Powell at high speeds when the BMW struck the driver’s side of a 2004 Lexus sedan that was turning onto SE Powell from SE 63rd Avenue. The force of the crash sent the BMW into the median and the car knocked over multiple trees.

Police say the driver and passenger in the BMW, identified as two 18-year-old women, died at the scene. The driver of the Lexus, a woman, was taken to an area hospital where she later died. A passenger in the Lexus was taken to a hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.
