York, PA : Woman charged in fatal Fairview Twp. crash on Wednesday, 19th October 2016

A Fairview Township woman has been charged in a crash that killed a woman who was walking on the shoulder of a road earlier this year, according to charging documents filed Wednesday by Fairview Township Police.

Trisha M. Seilhamer, 30, of 567 Nauvoo Road, is charged with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, careless driving causing unintentional death, careless driving and a summary traffic violation, according to charging documents.

The charges stem from an incident in which police say Seilhamer struck a woman with her car and caused fatal injuries to her in February.

Crash: At 7 a.m. on Feb. 20, Seilhamer was driving her maroon 2012 Chevrolet Cruze south in the 900 block of Lewisberry Road when she hit Nita Stout, 45, of the 400 block of Nauvoo Road, as she was walking north on the southbound shoulder, according to police.

Police say when Seilhamer struck Stout, there were no adverse weather conditions other than the road being slightly damp, and Seilhamer did not have any visual obstructions while driving.

"Seilhamer caused or allowed her vehicle to travel completely onto the paved shoulder of the southbound lane while traveling south on Lewisberry Road and negotiating a left-hand curve in the roadway," charging documents state.

Police say Seilhamer's car drove 135 feet on the shoulder.

Stout hit the driver's side front hood and windshield of Seilhamer's car, according to charging documents. Police allege because of tire marks observed at the scene from Seilhamer's car and the damage to the left side of her car that Stout had moved to the right about 10 feet to try to avoid being hit by the car.

Seilhamer's car stopped in the southbound lane of Lewisberry Road, and Stout came to rest on the right side of Seilhamer's car, police said.

"No evidence of evasive actions including braking and or steering to avoid striking the victim were found at the scene," charging documents state.
