Bowling Green,KY : Indiana family, friend identified as I-65 crash victims on July, Thursday 13th 2017

Four members of a family returning to their Indiana home from a Florida vacation have been identified as among the six victims of a four-vehicle crash Thursday night on Interstate 65.

A family friend who also was on the trip was the fifth victim, and a young boy, the son of one of the victims, was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Another man was also killed in the crash, but his identity had not been released as of Friday night pending notification of the next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges had been filed as of Friday afternoon, said Trooper Jeremy Hodges, spokesman for Kentucky State Police Post 3 in Bowling Green.

Members of the Boster family of Beech Grove, Ind., were confirmed as four of the victims Friday by Warren County Coroner Kevin Kirby.

Lonny D. Boster, 59, his wife Jonell Boster, 48, their sons Lonny D. Boster Jr., 30, and Carl Boster, 17, were killed in the crash, as was family friend Robert Hogan, 74.

They were a few hours from home after a Florida vacation, according to longtime family friend Lisa Sommerville of Southport, Ind.

“This was the first vacation they had taken in years,” she said.

Lonny Boster Jr.’s son is about 4 or 5, Sommerville said, and suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Kirby said the youngster’s mother has traveled to Nashville to be with him as he recovers.

Sommerville said Lonny Boster Sr. and his son worked at the local Walmart and Jonell Boster was on disability after a recent liver transplant.

She said Hogan was “a very, very dear family friend. They went everywhere together.”

Sommerville said she was especially close to Jonell Boster, whom she has known for 20 years.

“She was the most loyal, caring person in the world,” she said, adding that Lonny Boster Sr. “was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back.”

“This was just a very close family,” she said.

Two passenger vehicles and two commercial vehicles were involved in the wreck that occurred just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday on northbound I-65 just north of Exit 30 – the recently opened interchange that connects the interstate to the nearby Kentucky Transpark, Hodges said.
