Martinsville, VA : A man killed in a night single-vehicle wreck on Friday, June 23, 2017

A man killed in a Friday night single-vehicle wreck in Giles County has been identified by state police.

Patrick Mays, 47, of Fort Myers, Florida, died as a result of the crash.

Mays lost control and ran off the road while heading west on U.S. 460 in a 1999 Dodge Durango. The car hit an embankment and overturned several times. Mays, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle, state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller wrote in an email.

Speed was a factor, according to state police.
