Man Killed In Motorcycle Crash in San Diego, California

An autopsy is pending Sunday on a 41-year-old Escondido man who died Saturday after he crashed his motorcycle into a center divide guardrail while exiting Interstate 5 in Oceanside."The man was riding his 2011 Yamaha R1 motorcycle northbound on Interstate 5 and exiting to westbound Mission Avenue," said California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt. "According to witnesses, he was traveling at a high rate of speed and doing wheelies prior to colliding into the guardrail."
Medics responding to a 911 call found the downed motorcyclist unresponsive.
He was airlifted to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:25 p.m.
The man was identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office as Jack Brunell Whirlow of Escondido.
It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor.
