Huntsville,AL : Man, woman die in Huntsville car-train collision on April, Sunday 1st 2018

A man and woman were killed Sunday morning in a car-train collision in northeast Huntsville, police said.

Derek Joshua Collier, 34, the driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro, and his passenger, Sarah Kathleen McCallum, 26, both of Huntsville, died when the car struck a Norfolk Southern locomotive about 6 a.m., according to a release from police Lt. Michael Johnson.

Witnesses said Collier was driving fast and erratically on U.S. 72 East as his car approached the intersection of Moores Mill Road and almost struck a motorcycle, according to police. The Camaro stopped in the middle of the road at the red light at the intersection and accelerated quickly from the intersection northbound on Moores Mill Road when the light turned green, the release said.
