Sandwich, N.H : Man killed when car crashes into tree on Route 113 in Sandwich on Monday, August 8, 2016
A 19-year-old Tamworth man was killed Monday when he crashed his car while trying to get away from police, investigators said.
State police said that a trooper tried to stop the driver in Tamworth, but he sped off and eventually crashed in Sandwich.
Police said the Volkswagen Jetta driven by Jake Davison, of Tamworth, reached speeds of more than 100 mph before it left the road and crashed into a tree.
"The vehicle then turned onto Route 25 and accelerated at a high rate of speed, well above 100 mph," Lt. Kevin Duffy said. "The trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle. The vehicle actually ended up stopping, extinguishing its light. It stopped at the intersection of Route 25 and 113 in Sandwich."
Duffy said that when the trooper got out of his cruiser, the car took off and turned onto Route 113. Police said the trooper tried to catch up again, but he came across the Volkswagen after it slammed into a tree.
Davison was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the crash is still under investigation.
