Savannah, GA : Teen injured in crash in the 900 block of Collat Avenue on Sunday, 15th December, 2019
A teenage boy was injured when a stolen car crashed early Sunday morning, according to Savannah police.
Police spokeswoman Bianca Johnson said officers responded to the single-vehicle crash in the 900 block of Collat Avenue around 5:15 a.m., where they and discovered 14-year-old juvenile in the back seat suffering from serious injuries. Johnson said the teen was unrestrained.
Johnson said a preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle, a stolen 2003 GMC Envoy, was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a tree.
Johnson said the driver, who is believed to be a juvenile, fled the scene prior to police arriving.
The injured 14-year-old was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The driver has not been identified at this time.
Savannah police’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
