BERKELEY, CA : Pedestrian killed in I-80 crash on Friday, February 17th 2017

A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle travelling on Interstate 80 Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.The crash happened around 8 p.m. on eastbound I-80 near Gilman Street. Several vehicles stopped at the scene to help the victim.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Further details on the victim were not immediately available.

The no. 5 and 6 lanes were closed around 8:08 p.m. while crews cleaned the scene. The severe-traffic alert was canceled at 8:58 p.m.

The driver is cooperating with the investigation. It was unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. No arrests have been made.
