Santa Ana ,CA : One year old boy killed in crash after hit by car at intersection in Orange County on Saturday ,March 14th 2015

A baby sitter says she doesn't understand how a toddler could have escaped from her home and ended up in an Orange County intersection where he was hit and killed by a car.

Maria Bonilla (boh-NEE'-uh) tells the Orange County Register (http://bit.ly/19u9gGb) Monday that she had briefly left Jesus Alvarez in the backyard with three older kids Saturday in Santa Ana.

She returned to learn that the child, who would've turned 2 on Wednesday, had walked through her house, opened the front door and walked to the nearby intersection.

Bonilla searched the neighborhood and knocked on doors for several minutes before seeing the assembled police cars and learning something terrible had happened.

The boy was hit and killed by a Toyota Camry.

Police say it appears to be an accident where nothing criminal occurred, but they're still investigating all the circumstances.
