Tennessee Highway Patrol says alcohol played a role in a deadly New Year's Day wreck.

Troopers say 22-year-old Christopher Gibson, of Knoxville, was driving east in the 3300 block of Schaad Road around 1 a.m. Thursday when his vehicle crossed into the opposite lane of travel.

Gibson's vehicle hit a car driven by 35-year-old Jennifer Bumgardner, of Knoxville.

Troopers say Gibson and his passenger, 18-year-old Tamera Dunn, were thrown from the vehicle. Gibson was killed.

THP says both Gibson and Dunn had been drinking and were not wearing seat belts.
