WESTERLO, NY : A 26-year-old Greene County man died in a single car crash on Wednesday, August 9, 2017

A 26-year-old Greene County man died in a single car crash early Wednesday morning on County Route 401, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said.
Nicholas K. Spain of Greenville was the only person involved in the crash, which was reported at 1:30 a.m, the sheriff said.
Spain, who was driving a Honda Civic, was declared dead at the scene, he said. Spain's car left the roadway and slammed into several trees, he said.
The road was closed for several hours so investigators could search the scene for clues, Apple said. It was open by 8 a.m.
Investigators are probing speed and alcohol as possible factors, he said.
