BELTON, MO : 2 teens, 1 adult injured in crash on I-49 after driver attempts to pass Freightliner on Monday, 19th August 2024

Three people were injured on Monday when a teen driver tried to pass a semi-truck on I-49 and sideswiped it, causing a crash.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened at 11:20 p.m. on southbound I-49, near Highway 58 in Belton, Missouri.

According to MSHP, the 17-year-old driver of a 2016 Ford tried to pass a 2020 Freightliner semi-truck. The 17-year-old hit the driver’s side of the Freightliner and then drove off the side of I-49, causing the Ford to flip.

The driver, who is from Archie, Missouri, was wearing a seatbelt and reportedly had minor injuries. His two passengers, 18-year-old Joshua Olsen of Harrisonville, Missouri, and 21-year-old Jeny Dominguez of Orlando, Florida, had moderate injuries. It is unclear if they were wearing seatbelts. All three were taken to area hospitals.
