A Geneseo man was killed Saturday in a Wisconsin crash involving a UTV.
Joseph James Smolenski, 27, of Geneseo, was driving a 2015 Polaris Ranger around 5:24 p.m. in the 9000 block of County Trunk Highway G in Fayette Township, and lost control on a curve, according to a Lafayette County Sheriff's Office news release. The vehicle rolled over, and Mr. Smolenski was thrown out. He was flown to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison for treatment and was pronounced dead there later.
A passenger, Colton S. Carpenter, 25, of Darlington, Wis., was also injured and hospitalized.
Neither man is believed to have been wearing a seatbelt, the release states. Alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors.
The case remained under investigation, the release states.
Services for Mr. Smolenski are planned for Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan, according to his obituary.
