Orlando, FL : Motorist killed when dump truck makes U-turn near Fort Jefferson Boulevard on Thursday morning, March 9, 2017

A 30-year-old Orlando man was killed Thursday morning when a dump truck tried to make a U-turn in front of him, troopers said.

Miguel Lugo died after the crash on Goldenrod Road, near Fort Jefferson Boulevard, just before 9:30 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Lugo was driving a 1994 Ford pickup southbound on Goldenrod at that time. A northbound dump truck tried to make a U-turn, and Lugo was not able to stop in time, and the front of his pickup struck the right side of the dump truck.

A passenger in the Ford, Gabriel Williams, 33, of Orlando, incurred minor injuries. The driver of the dump truck, Jose Melendez Munet, 56, of Kissimmee, was not hurt.

All three were wearing seat belts, FHP said.
