Jefferson, MD : Three Brunswick High students among five people injured after head-on crash on Md. 464 west of Lander Road on Monday, April 4, 2016
Three Brunswick High School students were among five people sent to hospitals after a crash Monday afternoon in Jefferson, school district officials and police said.
The driver and front seat passenger of a Pontiac G6 involved in the crash, which occurred on Md. 464 west of Lander Road — were flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, according to a Maryland State Police news release.
The backseat passenger of that car was taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. The two passengers in a Honda Pilot, Matthew and Renee Walker, of Frederick, were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, police said.
The release did not state the extent of the injuries and did not identify the occupants of the Pontiac because they are minors.
Preliminary investigation shows the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. when the driver of the Pontiac that was traveling east lost control of the car and crossed into the westbound lane, according to the release.
The Pontiac hit the Pilot, operated by Matthew Walker, head-on, it said.
Frederick County Public Schools spokesman Michael Doerrer said school buses that were on that route, including bus B7, B8, B12 and B16, were delayed.
Montgomery County Public Schools bus driver Jose Benavidez was in a line of vehicles unable to pass the crash scene. He said this is the third crash he’s seen on the same stretch of road in the two to three months he has been driving in that area.
The posted speed limit on the road is 50 mph, he said, but he thinks it should be 35 mph because of the turns and the crashes he’s seen.
